From Examination to Administrative Review
When an examination results in proposed adjustments, taxpayers may have administrative opportunities to challenge the IRS's conclusions.
Depending on the matter, GWD may assist with:
- reviewing the examination record;
- analyzing proposed adjustments;
- identifying factual and technical disagreements;
- researching relevant federal tax authority;
- evaluating supporting evidence;
- preparing administrative responses or protests;
- representing taxpayers in appropriate administrative proceedings;
- coordinating with counsel when legal representation or litigation becomes appropriate.
Not Every Issue Should Be Fought Indefinitely
Effective advocacy requires judgment.
Protecting a taxpayer's interests does not necessarily mean defending every position regardless of the facts, law, cost, or risk.
The objective is to understand the strength of the position and make informed decisions about administrative resolution.
